Chemical Peels

Chemical skin peels are used to treat a variety of skin conditions from photo damage, pigmentation, acne, oily and or congested skin, rosacea, hypersensitive skin, mild to severe lines and wrinkles.

Enerpeels offers a range of peels for most skin conditions, now offering a chemical peel for rosacea sufferers. Using technology that gives maximum results with less downtime. Often if peeling is going to occur it does so about day 3-5 and often is more of a few small dry skin flakes rather than a full surface peel.

If you’re wanting a chemical skin peel to help with acne, pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, deep lines and wrinkles, dark eye circles or sagging skin on the face or treat the neck, chest and back, Enerpeels offers a complete range to target any skin condition or as most people find they have a combination of a few conditions.

Enerpeels can be tailored to create a bespoke package.

For deeper depth peels, skin will need to be primed with specific products for a minimum of 6 weeks.

Chemical Peels near York and Selby

Chemical peels (also known as medical facials) are used to exfoliate the skin and stimulate skin cells in the epidermis and sometimes dermis depending on the peel used.

They can be used to improve skin conditions like Rosacea, acne or acne scarring or to make skin healthier and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

We call them peels but often this can be misleading as some peels do not generally cause peeling although you get the improvement in the skin. Yes there are some chemical peels that can really make you peel but we tend not to use these in clinic – sometimes less is more.

Frequently Asked Questions about Chemical Peels

No, after your treatment a number of products will be applied to the skin as well as a high factor SPF to protect your skin, as the peel makes you more susceptible to burn.

We recommend you do not wear makeup for at least 24 hours following a chemical peel, longer if possible.

Most peels take around 30 minutes to an hour depending on the peel type, we would always say block yourself at least an hour to ensure all treatment steps are given the correct timing and care and all aftercare can be thoroughly explained.

No, depending on the strength of the peel you select you may feel some slight tingling or warmth on the skin. This should subside once the peel has been neutralised.

The advantages of a chemical peel are that it can treat a number of skin complaints such as acne, age spots, rosacea, mild to severe lines and wrinkles, photodamage and pigmentation. It also strips away dead skin cells and stimulates cell turnover for a healthy, glowing complexion.

The disadvantages of a chemical peel are that you need to use a high factor SPF for at least 4 weeks post treatment. However this is a step we strongly suggest patients add into their skincare routine anyway, as this can prevent early signs of ageing caused by the sun.

Another disadvantage of a chemical peel is that all active ingredients need to be stopped 1 week prior to treatment and not used again until 1 week after, these can make your skin sensitive and the peel may cause damage to the skin if this step is not adhered to. Slight peeling may occur but it will only be small flakes and nothing requiring any downtime.

We offer peels from 2 brands, ZO Skin Health and Enerpeel.

ZO Skin Health Stimulator Peels are a milder peel that can be used all year round with little to no downtime, we offer variations of this peel for acne (£80), anti-aging (£90) and hydration for dry skin (£90).

Enerpeels utilise different acids for varying depths of peel, the most gentle of these is the Mandelic Acid peel which can be used all year round with minimal downtime (£110)

Determining which chemical peel is right for you depends on a number of different factors: skin type, skin condition, sun exposure, skin concerns and downtime. A full medical history will be taken and looked at to ensure you have no contra-indications to treatment, then an in depth consultation will be had prior to treatment, outlining all treatment options suitable for your individual needs so you can then make an informed decision on whether to go ahead with treatment, and if so, which treatment is the best for you.

A more clear, glowing complexion will be observed after one chemical peel treatment, some redness may also be seen but this will fade over time. For more severe cases and more noticeable results, a course of treatments will usually be recommended which yields more change in the skin, for a prolonged amount of time. Maintenance peels can then be used to keep on top of the results achieved.
